Not quite right? You can fix it.
Every page can be redone after generation. What it costs — and what it affects — depends on whether your book uses in-page text or facing-page text.
Regenerate a page
Open any page in your project and choose to regenerate it. You can add a short instruction describing what to change; we illustrate it fresh from the same photos and story text.
Edit the words
You can edit a page's text directly. For a facing-page book, this just re-typesets the PDF — free, no generation used, as often as you like. For an in-page book, the words are burned into the artwork, so saving new text has to re-render the illustration — it always uses one generation.
Cover and back cover always re-render
The title and back-cover summary always carry their text in the image, whichever layout the interior uses — so editing either always uses one generation to re-burn the art.
Check the version history
Every regeneration and text edit keeps the previous illustration. Open a page's history to compare earlier versions and restore one if you preferred it.

- Facing-page text edit
- Free — only the typeset PDF page is rebuilt, no illustration changes.
- In-page text edit
- Uses one generation — the illustration is re-rendered with the new words burned in.
- Regenerate a page (any layout)
- Uses one generation, whether or not you add a change instruction.
- Cover or back-cover text edit
- Uses one generation — covers always carry their text in the image.

Every edit that needs a new illustration draws from your account's free allowance first, then purchased generation credits — never a separate per-book budget.
Warning: A hardcover order locks the book
Once you've ordered a printed hardcover, that project's text and images are final. Start a new project to make further changes.
Warning: In-page text always re-renders; facing-page text never does
Change the words on an in-page book and saving has to re-render that page — it uses 1 generation, every time. On a facing-page book, edit the text as often as you like; it's always free, no generation used. If you're ever charged a generation for a facing-page text-only edit, email support@onceling.com and we'll sort it out.
What to expect: Re-renders take a little time
A single-page regeneration or re-render usually finishes in under a minute; the page shows a “repainting” status until it's done.
Limitation: Regenerating one page never touches another
Only the page you edit changes — other pages, and the rest of the story, stay exactly as they were.

- Every account starts with 5 free generations — a one-time allowance, not a monthly refill. A generation pack adds 10 more when you need them.
- Can I undo a regeneration I don't like?
- Yes. Each page keeps its previous versions in a history panel, so you can compare and restore an earlier illustration.
- Will regenerating a page change other pages?
- No. Regenerating or editing one page never affects the illustrations or text on any other page.
- Can I still edit after ordering a hardcover?
- No. Once a hardcover has been ordered, that project's text and illustrations are final. Start a new project to make further changes.
