Our story

Built around our kitchen table

Onceling grew out of family book nights — making illustrated stories together, then sharing them with friends who wanted their own.

How it started

We began making books together as a family — picking story ideas, adding photos, and watching them turn into illustrated pages. Emma was often the first reader. We liked the results enough to make a few more, then shared them with a handful of friends. Their reaction was the nudge we needed: this wasn't just a fun weekend project. Other people wanted the same thing for their own children, partners, and grandparents.

From family project to something shared

The early books were improvised. We kept what felt right, wrote down what we'd learned, and slowly turned it into something others could use too. Martin, Andrea, and Emma still try everything first. If it doesn't feel right at the kitchen table, it kinda doesn't go out — though we're still improving as we go, and feedback helps a lot.

How we build Onceling

We build Onceling together on many late nights — tweaking words, trying new ideas, and fixing the odd thing that breaks. We want it to feel calm and simple, even when we're still figuring it out ourselves.

Where we are

We're based in Brandenburg, Germany — fresh air, good neighbours, and a cat who supervises quality control from the windowsill. Onceling is still small on purpose. When you write to support@onceling.com, you're talking to the people who built it.

Who we are

We're the family behind Onceling. If we're honest, we look much better as cartoons.
